This is one of two existing pictures of Robert Johnson.  There was a picture that surfaced that was thought to perhaps be a third picture of Robert Johnson, but as you can see, that fool had even bigger hands.

Guitar Lesson 1: Have big hands

After reading a misquote of Stevie Ray Vaughn attributing his guitar playing talent to having big hands, I began to be curious about the effect of this physical oddity upon guitar talent.  I immediately looked at the cover of the Robert Johnson box set, pictures of Jimmy Hendrix, and documentary footage of John Lee Hooker.  My suspicions were confirmed.  Their hands were huge.

This blog is a tribute to that heretofore intangible quality that makes bored teenagers into living legends, that puts a little thunder behind the lightning, that puts the John the Conquerer root in the pocket: Big Ass Hands.
